AFL South East Senior Competition Review - Current News

26 May 2017 by Anthony Matthews

As most of our supporters may have heard the AFL South East have instigated of their own initiative a review of the Senior Football & Netball Competition in the region – taking in the Nepean and Peninsula Leagues (MPNFL) and the South Eastern Football Netball League (SEFNL – being the former Casey League).

An overview of the details of the review can be found here and this also includes a link to the full terms of reference – http://websites.sportstg.com/assoc_page.cgi?client=1-9447-0-0-0&sID=347328&&news_task=DETAIL&articleID=53175025

The findings and ultimate outcome of this review has the potential to completely change the face of Peninsula football – and not for the better! In particular it is clear that there is an agenda to implement a backward return to divisional football, with promotion and relegation re-introduced between two or more Leagues.

The Pakenham Gazette recently ran an article on this review and presented a couple of models on what this could look like… This includes the option of a 3 Division structure involving all 3 Leagues – including the SENFL Clubs, with promotion & relegation across the Leagues. You can read all about it here – http://pakenham.starcommunity.com.au/gazette/2017-05-19/the-future-of-our-great-game/

How anyone thinks it would be good for local footy and netball to see one or more of a Rosebud, Rye, Sorrento or Dromana competing in a different League that includes a Seaford, Frankston YCW, or worse a Berwick, Doveton or Narre Warren beggars belief.

You can rest assured that our Club and others will fight tooth and nail to prevent this from occurring!!
